What is an angle library?
Definition
An angle library is a structured taxonomy of the creative angles and hooks currently active in a competitive set, with example creative attached to each angle.
Creative strategists have always built these by hand: trawling ad libraries and organic feeds, screenshotting, and sorting what they find into themes like price attack, founder story, social proof, or us versus them. An angle library formalizes the exercise into named angles, working definitions, and receipts, so a team shares one map of how the category is currently persuading people.
The uses are concrete. Brief writing starts from which angles are saturated and which are whitespace. Creative testing gets hypotheses grounded in what the market is already running. New business teams walk a prospect through their own category’s angle map, which lands harder than any credentials slide. In every case the attached examples are the point: an angle without example creative is just a label, and labels drift until no two people mean the same thing by them.
Shelf life is the catch. Categories rotate angles in weeks, so a library built for a March pitch quietly misleads a June brief. Versioning and a refresh cadence matter more than the elegance of the initial taxonomy; a dated snapshot clearly marked as dated beats an undated one presented as current.
How this shows up in Waldo
Waldo maintains an angle library per tracked category: /category/{id}/angle-library returns a versioned taxonomy of the angles active in the set, with example creative attached, built on the same daily-refreshed category data as the rest of the API. It is available over the MCP server too, so an agent can pull the current angle map in the middle of drafting a brief.
